Over 200,000 Jews live in London. We're an incredibly diverse community: religious and secular, European and oriental, Londoners for generations and relative newcomers. We're an amalgam of mini communities differentiated by one aspect or another, whose paths may rarely intersect.
We have synagogues, schools, centres of learning and playing fields. We have a rich cultural and educational tradition. What we do not have is a Jewish communal space in the capital where all Jews can feel equally at home, where we can embrace our differences and explore what binds us together. This is our goal: to create an inclusive Jewish Community Centre that's a gateway to all things Jewish, where Jews of every stripe, young and old, orthodox and secular, can encounter other Jews.
The building will be modern, forward thinking and fun, filled with events and activities that invigorate Jewish life and turn up the Jewish volume. There will be loads of great facilities, from a Jewish nursery to a Jewish bar and Jewish cinema. In fact there will be something for everyone, from toddlers in the nursery school to the pension-drawing singing group 'The Zimmers'. This Community Centre will be both British and Jewish, with that witty twist which we do best.
