Internationally renowned architects, Lifschutz Davidson Sandilands, are
creating an exciting, contemporary centre which will deliver our vision of
building Jewish life in London – in a place where Jewish culture will be
made, and to which people of all ages will want to come.
There are three components to the scheme: a flexible three-storey Community
Centre; a generous open space or piazza for outdoor events, carefully protected
from the Finchley Road; and a residential block of 14 two-bedroom flats with
views to the southwest. The ground floor of the Centre contains a large multi-purpose
hall and a café/bar/freelance hub, both opening onto the piazza and a screening
room. Next to the screening room will also be a workshop space. The first
floor is for community spaces, including a demonstration kosher kitchen,
an arts and crafts room, rehearsal and dance studios with changing rooms,
meeting rooms, and learning centres.
The Jewish Nursery, the cornerstone of our family activity, will be on the
second floor. It will provide full day care throughout the year for children
from 6 months to 5 years in a high quality environment. It will have its
own private terrace for outdoor play. The building will be easy to navigate,
accessible to all, and very environmentally-friendly, with natural ventilation,
a brown roof to encourage biodiversity, rainwater harvesting and solar panels.
